MYOB Small Business Survey

The MYOB Small Business Survey is always an interesting read (http://myob.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1113874823750&pagename=MYOB/Page/ContentPageWithNav). One of the stats I was particulary interested in was how many small businesses are selling online these days.

According to the report 33% of small businesses surveyed transact with customers online (eg via a shopping cart or accepting online payments). This all sounds good for eBay, but you also need to consider how many sell through their own website.

Thankfully, the report asks that question as well. Of the 41% of businesses that have a website, only 29% use their website for selling online. This means roughly 14% of businesses overall sell through their own website.

So, by my calculations (which aren't perfect!!), 14% of businesses sell through their own website and a further 19% of businesses sell online by websites other than their own (total 33%). I find that pretty interesting (but I don't think it's entirely unexpected) that more businesses sell or transact online via a means other than their own website.

As more and more businesses move online, if that trend holds, the future looks pretty bright for websites like eBay.

What next? What do you want to see in a software package?

Our current software that integrates eBay with MYOB is very close to release, so now I'm wondering what next?

If you could build some software to help you with your eBay business, what would it be?

We've had customers ask for Saasu integration and some asking for Oztion integration and we've already started work on integrating MYOB retail manager with eBay...but what do you want?

Let us know and you never know, we might just build it for you!
